Story from the daily targum.
With the loss of a home comes a wealth of new opportunities for members of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
"It's a really great thing. Now we literally have a budget to work with and flexibility to support the undergraduate chapter, whereas in the past we were broke and were constantly in debt trying to fix everything, like the house's pipes and sprinklers," said Albert Hakim, a 1990 alumnus who became a member of Phi Sigma Kappa in 1986. "Before, we couldn't support scholarships or rush because we had no money. But now we've paid our debt, and we're really able to offer the proper support."

The Journal said the specific incidents involved underage visitors being supplied with alcohol and an August fight that led to the discovery of the shotgun by police.
Kappa Delta Phi Helps Out for the Holiday
Submitted by Hermes on Sat, 11/24/2007 - 04:43.

Brothers from Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi at Bridgewater State College spent the early part of this week ensuring that some area families in need have a happy Thanksgiving. Alpha Chapter held its 4th annual Thanksgiving canned food drive and collected 60 bags of groceries for the North Easton-based My Brother's Keeper.
Sixteen Brothers from Alpha Chapter were involved in this year's drive, and they placed collection bags at Roche Bros. in Bridgewater (which donated the bags) and distributed empty bags to 500 homes in town. On Sunday they collected the bags and put together a trove of goodies that will surely brighten the holiday for many area families.
"I was speechless at some of the stuff we collected. People were very generous", said Brother Dan Kent, Alpha Chapter's philanthropy chairman.
During the week, the students also brought food to their peers who were participating in BSC's Tent City.
Each year, the drive is an important event for Kappa Delta Phi, Brother Kent said.
"One of the main reasons we do it is not just to help others, but for ourselves," he said, "so we can learn more about service and educate others about the homeless." (John Winters, Office of Institutional Communications)

Chi Phi @ East Carolina suspended
Submitted by Hermes on Sat, 09/29/2007 - 22:22.story from reflector.com
An East Carolina University fraternity is out of action for at least one year
and possibly four.
Chi Phi's national organization has indefinitely suspended its ECU chapter
over an Aug. 20 party where authorities cited 77 minors for drinking. The
suspension capped a three-week investigation and forestalled disciplinary action
by the university. It could be lifted next summer or could continue until
2011.
The ECU chapter cannot recruit new members, hold meetings or parties, raise
money for affiliated charities or take part in intramural sports. In a Sept. 14
letter to chapter members and ECU officials, Chi Phi national Executive Director
Michael Azarian discouraged ECU's 33 members from using the fraternity's letters
and symbols.
Failure to follow the national chapter's orders could result in the
fraternity's permanent dissolution, wrote Azarian, who was unavailable for
comment Thursday.
University of Mississippi suspended DKE for possible use for a racial slur
Submitted by Hermes on Sat, 09/15/2007 - 07:53.reported by the AP
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A University of Mississippi fraternity has been suspended for a year after a black student said he was the victim of a racial slur and a physical assault at a party, school officials said Friday.
Freshman Jeremiah Taylor, 18, said he was pushed down the stairs while attending a Delta Kappa Epsilon party Aug. 22 on the Oxford campus, according to school officials. The student newspaper, The Daily Mississippian, reported Friday on its Web site that Taylor said he was called the N-word at the party.
Taylor, of Southaven, filed a complaint on Aug. 24 with the Dean of Students' office, said Jeffrey Alford, Associate Vice Chancellor for university relations at Ole Miss.
Alford said the party got out of hand and people were asked to leave. Taylor told Mississippi Public Broadcasting in a Sept. 10 radio report that he was on his way downstairs, when "a guy in an orange shirt threw a beer can at me and hit me in my left shoulder." Then others shoved him down the stairs, he said.
