A fraternity that has been on the Indiana University campus since 1958 has been kicked off. Alpha Epsilon Pi is accused of hazing.

Indiana University Dean of Students Richard McKaig announced Wednesday morning that Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity has been expelled from campus for two years.

He believes the fraternity has a practice of hazing it's new members. A student ethics board recommended the expulsion to him. The board found the fraternity deprived members of sleep and took them to remote locations and left them to find their own way back to campus.

The Dean says his decision was a difficult one because this is a fraternity that makes many contributions to student life here. The expulsion takes effect immediately, which means members will not be allowed to participate in University-sponsored events such as intramurals or Little 500.

The University did strike a deal with the fraternity's national headquarters which allow the 50 or 60 men who live here to stay in the house throughout this school year. They will have to find other places to live next year. The fraternity house will be closed for two years.
